Fall is just upon us as the Labour Day long weekend is already here. The kids are back in school and it’s time to get back to a familiar routine. This also means it’s time to get your home ready for Fall as Winter will soon be upon us.

10 Steps to get your home ready for Fall

1. Get the windows wiped down from the inside and the outside, to remove any dry dust that was collected over the summer heat.
2. Finish off any painting or staining, to protect the exposed wood from the elements (eg. Fence, deck, window trims etc.)
3. Clean out the storage shed, and get rid of any broken flower pots or clutter that’s just taking up space.
4. Don’t forget to wash out the gutters. Make sure they are free of blockages and debris. This will help keep the water away from your shingles and prevent any early wood rot on the house.
5. Get your bulbs planted, and cut back the bushes or shrubs to clean up the garden.
6. Call your local furnace cleaners, get your furnace and vents cleaned out and have them check the heat exchange for any cracks.
7. Reverse the direction of the ceiling fans.
8. Change out the batteries in your fire alarms.
9. Box up those summer clothes and start pulling out the sweaters, warm jackets and boots.
10. Right now is perfect to finish up any canning that may still be on your list. Hit up the farmers market as they still have a good selection. Nothing better then pulling out some canned peaches for a peach cobbler in the colder months.
